Howdy – my name is Greg. I made this site because I love collecting, building, and painting plastic objects. More specifically, things like model kits, war-gaming figures, and from time-to-time, model trains.
I’ve been hobbying for almost forty years now, but with some major gaps and breaks. I’ve found every time I leave and come back, things seem to be a little different. What was a commonly accepted way to tackle a particular situation is now the old way, and the new way is the preferred way.
I then find myself asking questions about the new way versus the old way, and what way is the right way? How do I learn the new way? I figured if I was struggling with these questions – others may be as well. I first turned social media – Reddit and Facebook mostly, but I found I wasn’t liking the way the conversation was going. Lots of snarky “did you try googling it?” replies, or admonishments for asking a question that had already been answered “Did you read the FAQ?”.
So I’m leaving social media behind and doing it myself.
Fair warning: I don’t have the all the answers. At least not yet. But I’m going to find them out because that’s how I’m wired. I’m hoping that by putting my hobby journey out there, warts and all, I can grow as a hobbyist, help people in a similar situation, and maybe make some friends along the way.
